Lisbon Weekly Photo

The idea came up after visiting several “DailyPhoto” sites, particularly the one from Paris, which is my other favorite city. Since LisbonDailyPhoto was getting posts very irregularly, I decided to create this place. Although my skills and my Exilim Z110 are very limited, I hope to deserve your visit. Please leave your comments (any comments) so I can improve.

Alfama

Alfama was settled by the Romans and Visigoths. The Moors gave it the atmosphere and the name. In a reference to the hot springs found in the area, the name Alfama comes from alhama which means "hot baths" in Arab.

Hi Carlos,
Lisbon seems to be a city of hills; Or is it a varied terrain to the city?

Love this one Carlos!

That yellow trolley is too sweet winding its way thru that beautiful little street!

Makes me smile! In a way...looks like San Francisco again!

PS! OH, do the hot baths still exist? Such a nice way to unwind after a crazy DP blog posting day! CA has LOTS of spas and quite a few natural hot springs too, LOL! ;)

Paul and Ame,

Like San Francisco, Lisbon is indeed a city of hills. It's known as City of the 7 hills. There are several similarities between Lx and SF: the hills, the bridge, the trams and the tectonic fault. Besides, we have a civil parish called São Francisco Xavier.

Carlos and Ame,
Providence also has 7 hills! But our trolleys are on wheels - the old ones have been retired.
No spas (except the kind that get raided by the vice squad :)

Our spas moved to the south, to Algarve, so hot baths... only in the tub. LOL!

Grande abraço.
